John Cena Will Beat the Rock: Wrestlemania Spoiler

By Sean Farrell

It is time for me to be the spoiler of the WWE a company which I love and respect a lot by the way. It has been said by a backstage source, that John Cena will be holding the title until next year’s WrestleMania XXVIII event in Miami.

I personally don’t buy that Cena will hold the title until Mania as it would not make sense from any standpoint. In order for the WWE to keep anyone outside of the age of seven interested in the WWE Championship picture, they’d have to be able to convince the audience that Cena’s reign is in dire jeopardy against each and every wrestler he feuds with between now and WrestleMania which is almost impossible given the current roster. Cena telling “The Rock” that he’ll be WWE Champion come WrestleMania, can always be taken as nothing more than the ego of a reigning champ that feels he’s on top of the world at the moment. But a backstage source saying it, puts certain credibility behind the claims even though every champion at some point says that he’s going to stay champion forever.

Also, what would be the point of Cena facing The Rock for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania? The Rock isn’t coming back to wrestling full time by any means and if that is thought by anyone, you may need evaluated psychologically, certainly not with the success Fast Five has gotten at the box office. Having Cena face him as WWE Champion gives away the ending of the match before the match even happens and makes it as predictable as the Undertaker’s Streak. The possibility of Cena vs. Rock, aside from simply seeing The Rock in a match one more time, has really no interest in all reality as John Cena cannot put on a good match no matter who is carrying him through it.

Will these two putting on a competitive match, a clash of titans like Hogan and Andre even lead anyone to think the Rock is going to win? Cena being champion completely negates any feeling of the Rock getting the win because The Rock ain’t giving up Hollywood for Vince’s peanuts. Quite honestly, Cena keeping the belt until Mania and beyond would be disastrous. The WWE is in dire need of creating more new stars and having John Cena crush everyone like “Super Cena” for the next 11 months would be bad for everyone in the company except the executives. Once it becomes this obvious that Cena isn’t losing the title, RAW ratings and PPV buys will disappear very quickly leading up to Mania and anyone who isn’t a Cena fan isn’t going to pay to see him win. I am expecting, Cena will lose the title while still looking like “Super Cena” at some point but will quickly get it back, but I see no value at all in his match vs. Rock being for the title or even taking place at all for that matter other than seeing “the Great One” lace ’em up one more time.
