Casey Anthony: POLICE INTERVIEW SINKS DEFENSE

By Geno McGahee

The jury sat back and heard the two hour interview with Casey Anthony with detectives the day after her child was reported missing in 2008. Lead detective Yuri Melich took the stand today, on the eighth day of testimony in the Caylee Anthony murder trial, and recalled his talk with the accused.

Casey informed the detectives that Caylee had called her a day earlier and said: “Hi mommy.” The story of the kidnapper/nanny was retold to the detectives, but they were immediately suspicious and when they brought Casey to her “employer” at Universal Orlando, her story began to quickly crumble.

At Universal Orlando, Casey walked in as if she owned the place, telling security that she lost her ID badge and she was allowed in, but eventually turned to the detectives and stated that “I don’t work here.”

The detectives told her that she had lied about everything she had told them since they were brought to her family’s house the night before.

Casey Anthony is accused of murdering her young daughter, Caylee. Her long history of dishonesty is not helping her case. She claimed that a nanny that is apparently a character she invented kidnapped her child. She didn’t report the missing child for 31 days, went on a shopping spree, acted is if nothing was wrong, and when caught, tried to shift the blame to her father, George Anthony, adding in a molestation claim.

The trial is becoming a no-win for the defense. Cindy Anthony, Casey’s mother was a very strong witness for the prosecution. Her sobbing at the 911 recorded call where she reported her granddaughter missing, followed by Casey taking the phone and being very cold and almost annoyed that she was being asked.

The smell of the dead body in Casey’s car was also a strong point. Casey’s contention that she hit an animal and that was the cause of the odor isn’t believable. Her brother, ex-boyfriend, ex-best friend, and many others have taken the stand and have hurt her immensely, painting the picture that she is a manipulator and bad liar as well. Leonard Padilla, the bounty hunter that bailed her out, stated that she is “crazy and was probably born that way,” and he may be onto something.
