Ricky Hatton RETIRES from Boxing: It’s Official

By Geno McGahee

One of the most popular fighters in recent history, the brawling Brit, Ricky “Hitman” Hatton, has announced his retirement from the sport of boxing. Hatton was a huge attraction but gained legitimacy when he stopped Kostya Tszyu. His heart and sense of humor stood him apart and landed him some big payday showdowns.

He landed a fight with Floyd Mayweather, JR., and fought bravely, but was overmatched and would lose via late TKO. His next big showdown would be with Filipino powerhouse, Manny Pacquiao, a fight that would leave him unconscious in the second round, a horrific knockout and one that could have been deadly.

Hatton has had some troubles since, being featured on video doing cocaine, but he has admitted his problem, sought help, and has elected to retire from the sport he loved. RSR wishes him well.
