Alistair Overeem SHOCKER: WILL KNOCK OUT BOTH KLITSCHKOS

By Sean Farrell

Alistair Overeem is out against “Pezao” or as we in the U.S. call him “Bigfoot” Silva. Overeem has suffered a nagging toe injury and has decided that September was too soon to return to action and has been replaced by Daniel Cormier in the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix.

But there is one piece of news that tops all of this…Is Overeem still under contract? This has been wondered since the most dominant fighter of the moment has been openly discussing fighting the brothers Klitschko. Overeem would decimate both Vitali and Wladimir in boxing and would make a healthy paycheck doing so. If Overeem can hang with K-1’s best there is no doubt he can survive against either brother and win by KO in both bouts. Will it happen? Who knows but it is being said he wants to give it a go. Dana White has other plans however.

Showtime is also to blame for this according to White as they won’t change the date of the next scheduled Strikeforce Grand Prix event “Sept. 10 was the date Showtime wants us to go, so it’s the date we’ve got to go,” White said. “It’s unfortunate that Alistair is unavailable, but situations like this are why there are alternates in the tournament.” Overeem was simply asking for early October for the bout but was denied it. Overeem went on to state “I would love to fight one of the Klitschko brothers. I think it will be great to see how one combat sport world champion will do against another world champion. There are many reasons to challenge him: boxing has been the No. 1 combat sport for years and MMA is growing and closing the gap with boxing. I would like to bring both worlds together by being the first MMA and K-1 champion to cross over into boxing…Nobody has ever seen two combat champions fight in a boxing match so I think that I have the credentials to try. My current contract allows me to fight another sport so now I can do it. The last reason I can think of is that I know that Klitschko doesn’t have many challenges in boxing anymore…It’s up to the fans’ response. I only want to fight him if there is support in both boxing and MMA communities. If the fans want it, I’m in!”

Overeem vs. the Brothers Klitschko would make heavyweight boxing important again, but it could also kill boxing if Alistair ran through these “Dominant Brothers” with ease as I expect he would do even in a boxing match. The ball is in Zuffa’s court and they can either let Overeem’s toe heal and get him back in there ASAP, or they can let him go on to the two biggest fights in heavyweight boxing in over a decade and try his hand.
