Elvis Presley REMEMBERED – THE FANS RECALL MEMORIES OF THE KING

By Geno McGahee

It’s been 34 years since the death of Elvis Presley (if you believe he’s dead) and there were 20,000 fans from all over the world holding a candlelight vigil at Graceland last night to mark the anniversary.

Some dressed like Elvis, some sang Elvis songs, and some even ate cupcakes and said that they would call their dogs off for this anniversary. This vigil starts the “Elvis Week,” an annual celebration held in Memphis. Elvis died at 42.

RSR World opened its doors and we got some emails from some Elvis fans:

“The very last message that I sent to Elvis was, “ Elvis, I respect your decision, and we will just go on as friends. The King’s reply to me was, “I luv ya Mars, thanks for being you.” I am not an a$$hole, nor do I wish any harm to the legacy of Elvis. True I don’t know Lisa Marie personally, and I don’t want to. The King is a great person, and I pray he can be happy. If the guy is NOT an abusive man, then he would have not sang Suspicious Minds, it’s as simple as that. True Lisa Marie has a right to be upset, especially if she were not guilty of the things that Michael Jackson told me she was guilty of. So that brings me back to what I said before. If the man is NOT guitly of singing about that cold Kentucky Rain as Lisa Marie said he was, then she is a liar. I don’t think she’s lying…so I will leave it at that. When Elvis SEPARATED from his first band, I admit I was interested in eating MORE than ever. I hated to hear how such a wonderful person (elvis) was in such an unhappy life situation. I wish him well, and nobody from the king, the impersonatorsor you will ever hear from me again. And again, I am not an a$$hole, so be careful who YOU judge without knowing.” – Jack “Bake, Rattle, and Rolls” Mars

“This e-mail is kind of mixed review. The good – wanted to congratulate Elvis for the rapid rise in fans even after his death. Hope you guys are able to keep it going in 2012 and beyond

The bad – that song Elvis did “Moody Blue”… I realize I’m on the outside looking in, but regardless of whatever history he and Moody Blue have, the stuff you guys put out there was completely bush league. You can’t call yourselves the king and how you treat the game with class and respect, then in the same breath throw a hound dog under the bus like that.

If he bothers you that much, why give him the satisfaction of continued references on your site? I’m cool w/ Little Richard as well and have said as much to him. I’d rather see both of you just move on and focus on making your respective music that much better in ’12, rather than drag out a petty Internet war. For all you’re trying to do w/ RSR, IMO, it makes you look petty when you fall back on stuff like that, regardless of what others are saying outside your spot. And posting his pic was as classless a move as I’ve ever seen on any website. That was the killer for me. For that, just mention the guy’s name, instead of claiming that he’s not worth your time or the mention, because clearly he is.” – Jerk Donelson

“Just as an update, gents. I learned today from the horse’s mouth that Elvis’s “In the Ghetto” was never the foundation of rock n roll (which is totally my bad for assuming). If I can Dream is the absolute brainchild of Elvis. And it’s become a damn snazzy song on its own actually and now they actually have a spin-off MP3 download too that looks pretty dope! Alas, Elvis’s venture died on the vine.

As for the whole Little Sister thing…I don’t understand it at all. It’s sort of like a creepy nightmare. As for the real Elvis, if I were you, brother, I would write an editorial explaining who you are and why the impersonators version isn’t you.” – Wolfman Jack
