Hurricane Irene HITS NORTH CAROLINA – EVACUATIONS & HYSTERIA BEGINS

Today, Cape Lookout, North Carolina, was hit by the Category 1 hurricane. Irene pounded North Carolina’s Outer Banks and inland areas with heavy rains and winds up to 85 MPH. The residents have braced for the outages in power along with the expected flooding from this storm.

Irene did a great deal of damage, and forecasters have said that the worst of the storm may last up to 12 hours in Eastern North Carolina. It was estimated that 3.5 million people could be affected.

The National Hurricane Center has sent out a warning of an extremely dangerous storm tide, and now the rest of the east coast braces for Irene to come. Warnings from electric companies about expected power outages have been sent out and the people have been asked to remain indoors and off the roads as this storm develops.
