Georges St. Pierre – Nick Diaz: UFC 137 News

By Geno McGahee

Georges St. Pierre is on a collision course with the bad boy of MMA, Nick Diaz. St. Pierre struggled with Jake Shields in a recent outing, and Diaz is ready to take down the UFC Welterweight Champion.

The bout will take place at UFC 137 and is one of the most highly anticipated showdowns in MMA history. St. Pierre is the favorite but the brash striker is looking for UFC gold and may just find it. Diaz has been in the news lately for his boxing challenges to Roy Jones, JR., and Jeff Lacy, but has returned to where the money is and his expertise will come in handy.

Georges St. Pierre, 22-2, may have an edge do to his conditioning. GSP’s MMA training Program has been widely considered the secret to his success. Diaz, 25-7, the ex-Strikeforce Champ, has a lot of bravado and a lot of punching power. Can he overcome the threat that stands in front of him on October 29th?

Recently, GSP had some things to say about his opponent: “I cannot be more motivated than I am right now, I’m fighting Nick Diaz — he’s the champion of [Strikeforce] and he hasn’t lost in many years,” said St-Pierre. “So, I want to be the one to defeat him.”

The UFC 137 Card also includes:

Carlos Condit versus B.J. Penn
Cheick Kongo versus Matt Mitrione
Eliot Marshall versus Brandon Vera
Tyson Griffin versus Bart Palaszewski
Tim Credeur versus Brad Tavares
Jeff Curran versus Scott Jorgensen
Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic versus Roy Nelson
Dennis Siver versus Sam Stout
Hatsu Hioki versus George Roop
Danny Downes versus Ramsey Nijem
