Wladimir Klitschko Vs Jean Marc Mormeck: DEATH WISH – DANGER IN BOXING

By Geno McGahee

There is always concern for boxers. They take countless shots to the head and body and the human head is not meant to be hammered as it is in the sport. Boxers have died in the ring and sometimes, it’s not avoidable, but we have a fight coming up on December 10th with the IBO/WBA/IBF/WBO Heavyweight Champion, Wladimir Klitschko, 56-3, 49 KO’s, taking on former cruiserweight champion, the 39 year old, Jean Marc Mormeck, 36-4, 22 KO’s.

Wladimir doesn’t duck anyone and perhaps he was due an easy one, but Mormeck is only 5 feet, 11 inches, and when he gets stopped, as he did at the hands of cruiserweights David Haye and O’Neil Bell, he doesn’t react well. What is the pulverizing right hand of Wlad going to do as it is launched downward on the stationary target that is Mormeck? They had better back up that ambulance to the ring.

Mormeck has earned this shot at the title with three straight wins. He eked by Vinny Maddalone, by only 2 points on one card, and it was an ugly fight that was hard to judge, followed by a very questionable decision over the over the hill Fres Oquendo, and he won a split decision over Timur Ibragimov.

This tells us that Mormeck the older cruiserweight, turned heavyweight, struggles with mediocrities. Wlad is the best in the heavyweight game and will have no trouble easily putting Mormeck away as soon as he wants to. This fight is a joke and punch line may be a fighter that is not qualified for a shot at the title and has no business in the ring being permanently damaged. I’m very surprised that this fight is being sanctioned as a title fight.

Boxing has been plagued with negative press lately and although the division is devoid of talent for the most part, putting a little old man without a heavyweight punch and with questionable defense against the best big man in the game is like having a person walk into an oncoming tank. This fight is over the minute that it was announced. There is still time between now and December 10th and hopefully we will get a replacement.

Jean Marc Mormeck was a very good 200 pounder but he is an ineffective heavyweight that has benefitted from questionable decisions, bringing him to this title shot. This fight could be really messy.
