Junior dos Santos: OVERCOMES INJURY to Claim UFC GOLD

By Sean Farrell

How about we add to the already historic UFC on FOX event? When Junior dos Santos knocked out UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez Saturday night in the main event many were shocked, many expected it, but did anyone expect dos Santos the NEW UFC Heavyweight Champion to have showed up with a torn knee ligament? dos Santos disclosed during the post-fight presser that he tore his meniscus just 10 days before the fight, and was even on crutches for two days before hand.

“I got a very serious injury in my knee, my meniscus, you know, 10 days ago I couldn’t walk very well. I stayed two days with (crutches), but I asked my doctor to help me because it’s the fight of my life and I can’t miss that fight.” dos Santos said.

dos Santos landed a thunderous over hand right to Velasquez and finished him off on the ground with a series of blows in the first round. “Cigano” awaits his next opponent, which will be decided when another blockbuster fight takes place between Brock Lesnar and Alistair Overeem when they finally face off at UFC 141 in December.
