Chavis Carter was shot inside of a patrol car in Little Rock, Arkansas, and his hands were cuffed behind his back at the time, but the official cause of death is being ruled a suicide. The contention by the authorities is that Carter shot himself with a concealed gun in his right temple.
Carter, 21, was frisked by the officers after a traffic stop. Carter had an outstanding warrant linked to a drug charge. The officers found a small amount of marijuana on him but did not find a gun. He would be placed in the back of the car and later found slumped over, covered in blood.
The Jonesboro Police Department has supplied a video showing how a man handcuffed could shoot himself in the head, but, many are not convinced. The idea of a handcuffed man blowing his brains out in the back of a police car after a search is a hard pill to swallow for some. Many have screamed cover up and want this matter investigated more thoroughly.
