Roy Jones JR BOXING RETURN – BREAKING BOXING NEWS

By Geno McGahee

Roy Jones, JR., 56-8, 40 KO’s, plans to take on somebody his own generation and somebody that he should be able to beat in 48 year old Steve Collins, 36-3, 21 KO’s, in April. Collins has not fought in 16 years.

Jones has won two fights in a row against very suspect opposition. Prior to that, he was beaten decisively three times in a row by Bernard Hopkins, Denis Lebedev and Danny Green. Roy at 44 should not be fighting at this point, but he forges on either for money or ego, but at least he’s not taking any chances with his April opponent.

This seems to be the same old game by old Jones. He takes on a bunch of scrubs and then gets a big fight. He did this to set up his fight with Joe Calzaghe. The problem here is that he could get seriously injured. It would be a shame to see Jones suffer the same fate as a Muhammad Ali. A continued run in boxing could be a road to physical ruin.
