Adrien Broner KO’s Gavin Rees: BOXING RESULTS – HBO Boxing Card, Floyd Mayweather JR & More

By Geno McGahee

Adrien Broner, 26-0, 22 KO’s, had a game challenger in Gavin Rees, 37-2-1, 18 KO’s, but he was able to get his rhythm and gradually beat Rees into submission in round five.

In the first two rounds, Rees pushed the action, outworking Broner, but the tide would turn in round three and in round four an uppercut would send Rees hard to the floor. Rees got up and showed his great heart and kept pushing for the action. The counter-punching of Broner was impressive and his power was once again on display.

In round five, a body shot would drop Rees and the corner would throw in the towel. HBO showed Broner’s father jumping to his feet. They didn’t note if he was excited over his son’s victory or if a Broner win meant free cake at the concession stands. It’s obvious that Broner keeps dad well fed.

Adrien Broner has every indication that he is the future pound for pound best in the game. Rees has given hope to the competition out there because he did find openings and landed some good shots…primarily the body shots. It will be interesting to see what happens when Broner faces an aggressive puncher with more pop in his shots than Rees.
