The long unbeaten streak of WBA featherweight champion Chris John (48-1-3, 22 KOs) ended on Friday night as IBO featherweight champion Simpiwe Vetyeka (27-2, 15 KOs) stopped “The Dragon” at Metro City in Perth, Western Australia. Vetyeka hurt John in round five and John barely survived to the bell. Vetyeka then dropped John at the end of round six and the bout was stopped between rounds. The South African retained his IBO belt and claimed John’s WBA title. John was making his 19th defense of the WBA strap. Vetyeka dedicated the win to Nelson Mandela, who passed yesterday.

IBO lightweight champion Daud Cino Yordan (32-3, 23 KOs) retained his title with an entertaining twelve round split decision Sipho Taliwe (21-4-1, 14 KOs). Yordan survived an intense attack by Taliwe in round six, but generally took the fight to Taliwe. Scores were 114-113, 117-110 for Yordan, 116-111 for Taliwe, who was deducted a critical point for holding in round ten.

Featherweight Rasmanudin (18-4-2, 9 KOs) won a six round unanimous decision over Roberto Lerio (16-18-1, 6 KOs) by scores of 59-54, 57-56 and 58-55.
