Erislandy Lara Dominates Austin Trout: SHOWTIME BOXING NEWS & RESULTS

By Geno McGahee

One of the most avoided men in boxing, Erislandy Lara, 19-1-2, 12 KO’s, used his superior skill and defense to neutralize Austin Trout, 26-2, 14 KO’s, en route to a unanimous decision by scores of 118-109 and 117-110 (twice).

From the opening bell, Trout tried to be the aggressor and Lara began picking his shots, landing the one-two from time to time and avoiding the incoming. Trout could never get on track. He was unable to find Lara and became increasingly frustrated as the rounds went on.

In the 11th round, Trout stepped up the pressure and paid for it. A straight left hand put him down and badly hurt him. From that point on, it was a fight for survival and when the final bell rang, the verdict was not in question. Lara picked up the WBA light middleweight title and will now have to fight to get any of the notable fighters in and around the weight class into the ring with him. He is avoided for a reason.
