Mike Perez – Carlos Takam MAJORITY DRAW – Heavyweight HBO Boxing Results

By Geno McGahee

Mike Perez, 20-0-1, 12 KO’s, got a tougher fight than expected against the relatively unknown Carlos Takam, 29-1-1, 23 KO’s, struggling in a war en route to a majority draw by scores of 95-95 (twice) and 96-94.

This was the first fight for Perez since his victory over Mago Abdusalamov that ended in tragedy. Mago is still struggling to recoup, falling into a coma multiple times and still having a hard time recognizing his loved ones. What impact that had on his psyche in this fight is unknown, but he had a hard time when the much stronger Takam started to push forward.

The last half of the fight featured a lot of good body work by Takam, as he pushed Perez backward and punished him. The end result was a good one. Perez won the first half and Takam won the last half. Takam was the victor in a sense that he was so underrated and his competition leading up to this fight was less than stellar. He proved a lot in this fight and is a new player in the heavyweight division.
