Terence Crawford Defeats Ricky Burns to become the New WBO Lightweight Champion – Boxing News

Unbeaten lightweight contender Terence Crawford (23-0, 16 KOs) dethroned WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns (36-3-1, 11 KOs) on Saturday night, taking a twelve round unanimous decision at the Scottish Exhibition Centre in Glasgow, Scotland. Early rounds were close. Crawford took control in the fourth and continued to pressure and land while Burns’ moments were few. In the end, scores were 115-112, 115-112, 117-111.

2012 Olympic super heavyweight gold medalist Anthony Joshua (5-0, 5 KOs) scored a first round annihilation of journeyman Hector Avila (22-16-1, 14 KOs). Time was 2:14. Avila had extended Dereck Chisora nine rounds 11 months ago.

Former world lightweight title challenger John Murray (33-2, 20 KOs) scored a second round KO over John Simpson (25-11, 11 KOs). Simpson down three times in round two. Time was 2:58.

2012 Olympic middleweight bronze medalist Anthony Ogogo moved to 5-0 with 2 KOs after a six round 60-54 nod against Greg O’Neil (3-2, 1 KO).

Unbeaten lightweight Scotty Cardle (14-0, 3 KOs) scored an eighth round TKO over Paul Appleby (19-6, 11 KOs). The bout was waved off after Cardle dropped Appleby in round eight. Time was 1:17.
