ESPN2’s Friday Night Fights

John Molina, 21-1, 17 KO’s, picked up the NABO Lightweight Championship with a stunning 11th round stoppage of Henry Lundy, 18-1-1, 10 KO’s.   In the first quarter of the fight, Lundy dominated with his speed and timing and continued to outpoint Molina until the 8th round when a right hand crashed on Lundy’s chin and sent him to the floor.  Lundy arose and protested the knockdown slightly but he was in retreat after that, looking for the final bell.  The slower Molina continued to follow and began to find Lundy as he ran out of gas.  In the 11th round, Molina landed some good shots with Lundy against the ropes, including a right hand that paralyzed him against the ropes and forced the referee to stop it.

SHOBOX

Welterweight Mike Jones, 22-0, 18 KO’s, scored a fifth round stoppage over Irving Garcia, 17-5-3, 8 KO’s, dropping him with a low blow.  The referee missed the punch and proceeded to count.  Jones sustained a slight mouse underneath his right eye and had some heated exchanges, but his opponent didn’t have the punch to concern him and his punches landed with more effect.  The bout was stopped at 1:22 of round 5.
