Deontay Wilder, 31-0, 31 KO’s, exposed Malik Scott, 36-2-1, 13 KO’s, in just 1 minute and 36 seconds. A left hook landed on the temple of Scott, followed by a glancing right hand and he could not get up. Scott has built his career on mediocrities and when he stepped up against Dereck Chisora, he lost by TKO. Here, when he stepped up against one of the biggest punchers, if not the biggest puncher, in boxing, he was disposed of when the first punch landed.
Wilder is set to take on the winner of Bermane Stiverne – Chris Arreola and the winner of that fight will be an actual test. Wilder has been brought along at a snail’s pace and carefully matched. Nobody knows how good Wilder actually is at this point. He’s never been close to tested, but despite that, he is the best hope for American heavyweight boxing.
