International Boxing Hall of Fame (IBHOF) Flies Flags at Half-Staff for Promoter/Manager Mickey Duff

The International Boxing Hall of Fame announced its flags will fly at half-staff in memory of promoter and manager Mickey Duff. He passed away yesterday in England. He was 84.

“Mickey Duff was highly respected for his considerable accomplishments and influence in boxing,” said Hall of Fame Executive Director Edward Brophy. “The Hall of Fame joins the boxing community in mourning his passing and send our condolences to his family.”

A boxing renaissance man, Duff did it all: boxer, matchmaker, manager, cornerman and promoter. Born Monek Prager on June 7, 1929 in Krakow, Poland, he moved to England in the late 1930s and took up boxing. He boxed as an amateur before turning pro at age 15. Duff retired at age 19 to become a matchmaker, manager and promoter. During his storied career he was involved with 19 world champions including Jim Watt, Alan Minter, Barry McGuigan, John Conteh, Terry Downes, Howard Winstone, Maurice Hope, John (The Beast) Mugabi, Cornelius Boza Edwards, Lloyd Honeyghan, Joe Calzaghe and Frank Bruno.

In 1999 Duff was elected into the International Boxing Hall of Fame.
