Vasyl Lomachenko Outpoints Gary Russell JR – SHOWTIME BOXING RESULTS

By Geno McGahee

Vasyl Lomachenko, 2-1, 1 KO, has made history capturing the vacant WBO featherweight title with a majority decision over Gary Russell, JR., 24-1, 14 KO’s, by scores of 114-114 and 116-112 (twice). It was a clear victory, but one judge should not be allowed near a scorecard again. Russell could not land and his punches had nothing on them. Lomachenko was controlling from jump and nearly had Russell JR out at the end.

Vasyl Lomachenko is now champion with only three fights. Known as the best amateur of all time, it’s yet to be seen if that will translate into the pro ranks. He’s already lost one to Orlando Salido, and there is pretty stiff opposition in and around the division. Whatever the case, he is an exciting addition and did very well tonight avoiding the incoming and clearly winning the fight.
