Nonito Donaire – Jeffrey Mathebula & Kelly Pavlik BOXING RESULTS

By Geno McGahee

Nonito Donaire, 29-1, 18 KO’s, defeated Jeffrey Mathebula, 26-4-2, 14 KO’s, by a wide unanimous and very generous decision by scores of 117-110, 118-109 and 119-108.  Donaire scored an early knockdown, but Mathebula took many of the later rounds, despite the judges.  I don’t think that we will see the big uproar from the media and the Pacquiao fans about the questionable scoring.

This was a close fight.  Donaire’s late rally probably won the fight, but the score of 119-108 is ridiculous.  In the end, Donaire moves on and is still one of the biggest stars in the game.  He will be moving on to bigger and better things.

Former middleweight champion, Kelly Pavlik, 40-2, 34 KO’s, brought too much skill to the ring for the much greener Will Rosinsky, 16-2, 9 KO’s, knocking him down with a right hand in the second round and cruising to an easy decision win by scores of 97-92 and 98-91 (twice). Rosinsky was game and tried very hard but the difference in class was too much to overcome. Pavlik was relaxed and did what he had to do to gain the victory.
