Ernest Borgnine DEAD – Cause of Death & Movie Legacy Remains

By Geno McGahee

Ernest Borgnine won the best actor Oscar for his role in “MARTY,” in 1955, and had a great run as a popular actor, bringing versatility and heart to his craft. He passed away at the age of 95. The cause of death has not been released.

Borgnine leaves behind a legacy, with such hits as: FROM HERE TO ETERNITY, THE DIRTY DOZEN, AND WHISTLE AT EATON FALLS, but I will most remember him for two roles. One, was THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE, where he played the love struck police officer, acting across from the great Gene Hackman. When his wife died in that movie, he made you feel it. He was fantastic.

The other film that he was part of was one of my childhood and it is rather unheralded. SUPER FUZZ was about a cop that suffered from radiation poisoning and got superpowers because of it. He became “Super Fuzz” and his partner was played by the hilarious Ernest Borgnine. I also enjoyed his comedic work in BASEKETBALL, where he sang “I’m Too Sexy” and was just overall a riot to watch.

Ernest Borgnine led a memorable life, graced this planet for 95 years and will live forever through is huge body of work. RIP Ernest Borgnine.
