Daniel Lozano Out to Destroy Jonathan Vidal – Breaking Boxing News

WBO #15 ranked super flyweight Daniel “Alacran” Lozano (12-1, 9 KOs) continues his march toward a world title fight this Friday at the A La Carte Event Pavilion in Tampa, FL. Lozano, a local favorite from nearby Bowling Green, Florida will take on Jonathan “Pitbull” Vidal (18-2, 10 KOs) of Guaynabo, Puerto Rico in the final of the Telemundo super flyweight tournament running this year.

Entering his last bout, Lozano was coming off of his first career loss and responded with a devastating knockout of Antonio Tostado broadcast on Telemundo August 1st. Lozano senses he is close to his goal of winning a world title and knows a win this Friday is a must for that opportunity to happen sooner rather than later. Fightnews spoke with Lozano now just days away from his biggest fight to date.

How much pressure did you feel entering your last fight where you were coming off of a loss?

It was tough because it was not only a loss but my first as a professional. Once I got warmed up in the fight though it didnt take long for me to get back on track and back to winning. The reality is sinking in now for me that if I win this tournament I put myself in a really good position to get a world title fight.

What do you know about Vidal?

I have seen him fight before. He has good skills. Our styles match up well for a very fan friendly fight. The viewers tuning in are going to see an explosive fight.

You have the bigger knockout percentage. Do you think he will exchange with you?

I have seen him exchange in other fights but I’m not sure he will exchange with me. If he does exchange with me I’m not sure he will continue to do so after he feels my power.

What will be your plan should he look to outbox you?

He actually may see that as a more successful option for him. I am prepared for that should he choose that route. I can tell you that I am going for the knockout 100%. I don’t like leaving fights in the hands of the judges. When I was an amateur I was in a situation like that and I felt it cost me a chance to be on the U.S. Olympic Team. I dropped my opponent mutliple times in a three round fight and he still got the decision. Since then I don’t ever want a fight to go to the scorecards.

The final will feature a Mexican fighter in yourself versus a Puerto Rican in Vidal. Does this make the magnitude of this fight that much bigger you think?

I myself don’t dwell too much on the Mexico versus Puerto Rico boxing rivalry. Don’t get me wrong, I am very proud of my Mexican heritage. This is a business as well and fans especially like this boxing rivalry. It makes the fans tuning in and live at the fight happy and that’s what’s most important. I will do my part and give it my all as I always do.
