Auburn Tigers had a year and two weeks to stew on the 14 point defeat at the hands of LSU. And in that period of time, Auburn managed to use a balanced attack on offense and a ferocious defense to keep the Bayou Bengals at bay.

Auburn got out of the gate fast and early, scoring 17 points in the first quarter to LSU’s 7, coming off of the legs of Kenny Hilliard. By the half, LSU was deeper into the hole, down by a score of 31-7.

While LSU had moderate success running the ball on first down, Auburn’s defense was stubborn, holding them to 0-12 on 3rd down conversions.

As the game progressed, lack of execution, poor tackling, vanilla play calling, and a worn out defense proved too much for LSU to overcome, going down into defeat by a score of 41-7. Even a change of quarterback did not provide the Tigers with a needed spark, as Jennings managed to complete just 5 passes in 10 attempts for 84 yards.

Simply put, tonight, the better Tigers were from Auburn. And with Bo Jackson peering along the sidelines, Auburn reminded me of that dominant team of yesteryear, poised to take its position at the top of the SEC West once again.

Things don’t get easier for the Tigers as they travel to Gainesville to face the Florida Gators. The Gators are 3-1, barely managing to etch out a 1 point victory against a 2-3 Tennessee team.
