TEAM… Together Each Achieves More. Today, the Saints reinforced that acronym as the team went the distance and beyond, defeating a pesky Tampa Bay Buccaneer team 37-31 in overtime. And while the leader of this team, Drew Brees, struggled at times, throwing 3 uncharacteristic interceptions, others stepped up, cementing the victory. The Saints improve to 2-3 for the year while the Bucs slide to 1-4.
The Saints running backs came up big. What wasn’t gained by foot was gained by hand as Pierre Thomas rushed for 35 yards, but caught 8 passes for 77 yards. Kirby Robinson continues to impress fans as he rushed for a team leading 89 yards, the final 18 yards coming on the game winning rush. The running game gave the Saints a breath of life, but a peering eye would recognize that the incredible blocking of Left Tackle Terron Armstead was key in this victory.
The Saints will face another challenge as they pack their bags and head to Detroit to face a 3-2 Lions, who are sure to be sore from a 17-14 loss at the hands of the Buffalo Bills. The Saints will have to heal up a bit, as Jimmy Graham, Jonathan Goodwin, and Patrick Robinson all went down with injuries in today’s battle.
