Gennady Golovkin Vs. Marco Antonio Rubio – Breaking it Down by the Numbers

By Carlos “Famoso” Hernandez

Have you ever heard the saying “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks”? Or can you? Will Marco Antonio Rubio be moving around the ring with quick foot work? Will he be counter punching after he makes Golovkin miss? Will he be able to keep a fast pace kind of brawl or even be able to take Golovkin’s punch?

I highly doubt it. Rubio is a fighter with all the heart in the world. He would prefer to die in the ring with his kill or be killed mentality. We also know, he has one of the best trainers (Robert Garcia) in the world, but will that be enough to have taught him to use a bit more of the ring? To box more than to see who is more macho? For him to have a chance with Golovkin, he must be intelligent in there and use his speed and mobility. GGG is one the hardest punchers in boxing today, who is well rounded with power in the way he uses his combinations body – head – body. His trainer, Abel Sanchez has done an excellent job having him fight more like a Mexican fighter, with him attacking and destroying the body.

But how can you beat a guy who’s very strong and relentless? As Sugar Shane Mosley, Floyd Mayweather, JR. along with, Muhammad Ali always has, with speed. This is one variable that Marco Antonio Rubio lacks as a fighter.

Rubio may get lucky and throw a Hail Mary, but remember that Golovkin has a very solid chin.

Final Prediction: Gennady “GGG” Golovkin in 3.
