Team RSR

Debbie Edwards

GGG stops Marco Antonio Rubio in the 8th round.

“Bad” Brad Berkwitt

GGG is on a mission to take over boxing once PBF retires. With that said, his power and determination will be too much for Rubio. GGG by 4th round KO. Bring on Floyd Mayweather, JR. at a catch weight…

Carlos “Famoso” Hernandez

GGG is just too tough for Rubio. He will stop him in three rounds.

Boyd Caton

GGG in 9 rounds.

Eric Fleming

GGG by late stoppage of Marco Antonio Rubio.

Lou Eisen

I believe Golovkin will wear Rubio down with his vicious, withering body attack. Golovkin’s Mexican left hook to the liver and right hand to the spleen will paint a steady tattoo on Rubio’s flanks. Golovkin buries his left hook to the liver up to his elbow. Whenever Rubio’s hands start to come down to protect his sides, then Golovkin will switch his attack to the head and finish him off. If Golovkin is on his game (and there is no reason to suspect otherwise) he will stop Rubio inside three rounds.

Grim X.

Rubio by split decision. GGG is one dimensional and lacks defense. He uses his offense as defense. The first guy that can throw multiple punches combos at GGG has better chance of succeeding.

Jim Amato

I have to go with GGG. I remember a few years back when Rubio was taken apart by then middleweight king Kelly Pavlik. Rubio didn’t show me much then. This is a very safe defense for the champion. I’ll be surprised if Rubio lasts five rounds.

Peter Silkov

This is basically another ‘keep busy’ defence for Gennady Golovkin. Rubio is a typically tough Mexican, who two years ago gave Julio Cesar Chavez Jr a tough fight. Golovkin though is a different proposition to Chavez Jr, being a vastly superior technical boxer, with far more speed and explosive punching power. Despite his impressive run of title defences so far, it is fair to say that we have yet to see the best of Golovkin, simply because he has not been significantly pushed by any of his opponents so far.

Golovkin often looks as if he is taking his time in his fights and can end them almost any time he wishes. Eventually Gennady may have to move up to the super-middleweight division, in order to get the kind of big fights that he craves. In the mean time he should make decisive work of Rubio on Saturday. Golovkin will be too fast and too powerful for the tough but much slower Mexican. Look for a knockout or stoppage victory for Golovkin round about the 5th round. Rubio will make a go of it while he can, but on Saturday he faces one of the best offensive fighters pound for pound in the world. Gennady Golovkin is special, which is one of the reasons why he is so avoided.

Fighters

“Comanche Boy” George Tahdooahnippah

GGG by KO but we will see how good he is. Hopefully Rubio takes him to a place he hasn’t been before.

Nick “King Beamen” Givhan

I’m going to have to put my money on Triple G. He’s a powerhouse and never seems to fail through late rounds if taken there. Rubio is a great fighter, but I see Triple G taking it by decision.

“Baby” Joe Mesi

GGG by a close decision in a great fight.

Grady “Bad Boy” Brewer

GGG stops Rubio in the 5th round.

Paul “The Ultimate” Vaden

GGG inside of 7 rounds. Rubio is a very game fighter. But this will lead to his detriment because he’ll be accommodating to GGG’s explosive assault by being directly in front of him. It’s a fans fight for sure.

Zach Cooper

GGG by knockout by the 5th round at the latest.

Tony “Mo Better” Jeter

GGG by 4th round KO.

Seamus McDonagh

Golovkin inside six rounds. He has a great left jab, puts on too much pressure, and takes a great punch. He is way ahead of the fighters these days.

Vonzell Johnson

GGG by 8th or 9th round knockout.

Jimmy Lange

GGG will be too much for Rubio in this one. Just as he will be too much for anyone at this level. I believe he is on the verge of being an elite fighter. He needs a super fight with someone who he is even with, or even favored to beat him in order to walk thru the door and truly become elite. GGG by 9th round KO.

Bermane Stiverne

GGG will stop Marco Antonio Rubio.

Boxing Publicists

Bob Trieger – Publicist (Full Court PRESS)

GGG WTKO8. Rubio is tough and will take a beating before the ref stops the fight.

Amy Green – Publicist (AGreen Publicity)

Rubio is a rugged veteran, with losses to some great fighters — Chavez Jr., Pavlik and Ouma. But Golovkin is relentless, and I see him stopping Rubio in the late rounds.

Total Tally: GGG – 21 votes —- Marco Antonio Rubio – 1 vote
