WWE TLC 2014 Results: New Champion Crowned, Reigns Returns

WWE’s Tables, Ladders, and Chairs 2014 pay per view was supposed to live up to the hype, especially after the NXT Takeover show on Thursday clearly showed up the main roster leading up to this event…Sadly, it didnt. This pay per view wasn’t awful, but it definitely wasn’t good. Average at best. But it had its moments…Below are the results.

Luke Harper vs. Dolph Ziggler (Ladder Match)

This match opened the show and was easily the best match of the night. Many expected this and thought this would set the pace for the rest of the event…Well, Ziggler and Harper both left the match bloodied after one of the best ladder matches in recent memory (Modern day HBK vs Razor Ramon IMO) the biggest pop of the night came when Dolph regained his I.C. championship in his hometown. Great moment for him. Lots of credit to both of these men for what they gave us last night.

Winner and NEW Intercontinental Champion Dolph Ziggler

The Miz & Damien Mizdow vs. The Usos (WWE Tag Team Championship Match)

The Usos got the win…BUT…via DQ as Miz decided the Slammy upside the head of an Uso was the easiest way out to retain their titles. This was your typical Uso tag match, but Sandow stole the show with his antics as Mizdow, absolutely love his gimmick.

Winner: The Usos

Erick Rowan vs. Big Show (Steel Stairs Match)

Rowan lost his first PPV match as a singles star in the first ever Stairs match after Big Show delivered a Knockout Punch to the back of his head after a chokeslam on the stairs. In order to get the pin, Big Show held the stairs on top of Rowan, as the ref counted to three. This was your usual big man match, very slow paced with a few brutal spots mixed it. Definitely not a memorable match, but was pretty cool to see.

Winner: Big Show

Ryback vs. Kane (Chairs Match)

Kane utilized the chairs well, but this match was more of a veteran pushing the younger guy. Kane was no match for the “big guy”, Ryback. who won after hitting Shell Shock on Kane after another methodical slow paced match

Winner: Ryback

Nikki Bella vs. AJ Lee (Divas Championship Match)

For the second time, Brie Bella used a distraction to help her sister beat AJ. When the ref tried to banish Brie from ringside, Nikki pulled something out of her sock and sprayed it into AJ’s face. Nikki then hit the Rack Attack to retain her title. This match was AWFUL…Especially after witnessing a real women’s match in NXT with Charlotte and Sasha Banks on Thursday.

Winner: Nikki Bella

John Cena vs. Seth Rollins (Tables Match)

J&J Security attacked Cena throughout the match everytime he got a leg up on Rollins. Cena won but the ref never saw Rollins go through the table because he was knocked down. J&J cleared the ring of the evidence and the match continued. Cena and Rollins then went through a table at the same time, no winner was determined so the match was restarted. Big Show came down and attacked Cena but then Roman Reigns made his return to the ring!!! He cleared the way for Cena to remain the No. 1 contender for Brock Lesnar’s WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

Winner and still #1 contender: John Cena

Rusev vs. Jack Swagger (United States Championship Match)

Not sure what they’re doing this feud again for, but okie dokie….Swagger was able to escape the Accolade once, which is an impressive feat. But he had to succumb to the hold eventually as it was reapplied. Rusev with another easy win.

Winner: Rusev

Dean Ambrose vs. Bray Wyatt (Tables, Ladders & Chairs Match)

The match closed the show and both wrestlers used a variety of weapons, from the expected tables, ladders and chairs to kendo sticks and tv monitors. Ambrose landed several elbows off a ladder putting Bray through multiple tables including(obviously) the Spanish announce table. Ambrose tried to end the match by hitting Bray with the before mentioned monitor, but when it exploded and sparks from the monitor flew into his face, it allowed Bray to hit Sister Abigail and get the pinfall. Good match, not what was expected at all with such a weak finish though.

Overall, I gave the last pay per view of the year a C+….But in WWE’s defense, 2014 started horribly on pay per view so at least the year closed with a decent one.
