A Closer Look at Daniel “Twitch” Franco – Boxing News

Undefeated Prospect Daniel Franco looks to start 2015 in similar fashion as he ended 2014…with a knockout victory on Saturday night’s Boxing By The Beach show at the Oceanview Pavilion in Port Hueneme. Franco squares off against tough veteran Sergio Najera in a 6 round bout. But before that, we had a chance to go 6 rounds of questions and answers with the boxer known as “Twitch” for our Fighter Spotlight.

Round 1: You are from Riverside but spend a lot of time in Oxnard. Tell us about that.

Franco: Well my Manager is based out of Oxnard and he has done an amazing job growing a support system out of that area. The co-trainer of my team (Mario Aguiniga) has also lived there for most of his life. I travel a lot to Oxnard for sparring, training, and to catch a bite to eat at my manager’s restaurant Cafe Amri. So it’s become a second home for me.

Round 2: Who are some of the notable boxers you have had an opportunity to spar with?

Franco: I have sparred with a bunch of great fighters. I grew up sparring my oldest brother Michael, and his stable-mate Anthony Villarreal. ive been in there with a bunch of different fighters: Randy Caballero, Jose Zepeda, Paulie Malignaggi, Ray Beltran, Frankie Gomez, Sergio Thompson, Vic Darchinyan, Alejandro Perez…the list goes on. They’re all amazing fighters from different weights that i picked up a thing or two from each.

Round 3: You fought at Boxing By The Beach last April and knocked out your opponent in impressive fashion. How did it feel to fight at Oceanview Pavilion in front of a lot of your supporters?

Franco: It was an amazing experience to showcase my skills in front of the Oxnard boxing fans. My family and friends from the gym were also a very big support going into that fight. They played a big role in motivating me and helping me to achieve a great camp.

Round 4: You last fought last month on December 6 and are coming back less than 6 weeks later. Did you get a chance to rest for the Holidays?

Franco: #teamnodaysoff (laughing). I was actually training every single day except for Christmas Day. I spent time with my family at my grandma’s house. It was a nice break for at least a day.

Round 5: How has training camp been for this fight?

Franco: Training camp has been amazing! I’m killing it on my runs, in sparring, and in my strength and conditioning. My body has been staying in motion since my last fight so there wasn’t’ too much dust to shake off for this one. I got my timing back pretty quick.. Every fight we tailor our training to improve upon each mistake I’ve made in each past fight…always improving and trying to perfect the details. I want to give the people what they want…I will use my skill and precision to get the KO.

Round 6: How did you get the nickname Twitch?

Franco: When I was an amateur, I used to touch my chin to my shoulder in order to make sure my stance was good and my chin was tucked away. I guess some people may have thought that I had a nervous twitch or something like that. And the name stuck.

Round 7: What do you like to do when you are not training?

Franco: I like to paint, draw and illustrate. I go hiking, play guitar, hangout with my Bull Terrier, and train some of my amateur boxers.
