Muhammad Ali Hospitalized – Breaking Medical News UPDATE

M AliBy Lou Eisen

Once again the world sits and waits nervously as global icon Muhammad Ali was rushed to the hospital once more on Thurs. Jan. 15, two days before his 73rd birthday. The doctors that attended him said that there are still remnants of his urinary tract infection, which has apparently not completely cleared up, as originally thought. Ali was rushed to an undisclosed hospital in the Phoenix area after being found unresponsive at home.

With so much going on in the world of boxing at this very moment, Ali once again was able to grab the national and international world spotlight. It is a position that he is well accustomed to. Ali has always been very comfortable whenever the attention of the world is completely focused on him. Ali belongs to the world and the doctors treating him are rather well aware of that by now. The doctors treating Ali said that he should be going home in two days time at the most.

However, because of his age and his underlying condition of Parkinson’s disease, doctors do not want to rush anything with the “Greatest.” They want to make sure that this time they completely eradicate any trace of the urinary tract infection that put Ali in the hospital and stubbornly refuses to leave. Ali’s age also is a great cause for concern and he is not as strong as he once was, physically and emotionally. Mind you, he does not feel sorry for himself. He takes everything in stride. For him and his supporters, this is just another fascinating day in the incredible life of Muhammad Ali.

One of the main concerns for the medical staff is to make sure that Ali does not contract pneumonia, which is often fatal in men of his age. It is also possible that because of his age and the fact that he has Parkinson’s disease that his immune system may be slightly compromised or simply not as strong as it once was when he was young. The human immune system is supposed to protect humans from various diseases. However, as we age, our immune systems do not work as efficiently as they once did.

This coming Saturday on Jan 17th, Ali’s 73rd birthday, WBC world heavyweight champion Bermane Stiverne will defend his title against American challenger Deontay Wilder. Jan 17 is supposedly the day that Bob Arum and Top Rank will reveal that there is a signed contract for Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather, JR. to fight each other on May 2 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Even so, both of these events still pale in comparison to the importance to the world of Ali’s health. Ali is truly an historic person, socially, culturally, politically and, of course, in the world of sports.

Recently Floyd Mayweather, JR. has taken to wearing a Baseball cap with the letters TBE emblazoned upon it. It stands for, “The Best Ever.” Maybe Floyd should be in the hospital to have his brain checked for retrograde amnesia. There is only ONE fighter who can, based on his ring record (won world heavyweight title three times!!!), be called, “The Best Ever,” and that man is Muhammad Ali. Remember Ali never ducked an opponent. Mayweather has ducked Pacquiao for so long, he is starting to quack when he talks. God speed Muhammad Ali!
