New England Patriots Head Coach Bill Belichick held a press conference this morning to shed light on his position in the newest scandal in the NFL, and his words have set sports and social media afire. When asked the details of how footballs are handled before the game, he responded “I think we all know that quarterbacks, kickers, specialists have certain preferences on footballs. …..they know a lot more about it than I do.” He further went on to say, “Tom’s (Brady) personal preference on his footballs are something that he can talk about in much better detail and information than I could possibly provide.”

NFL regulations are very specific as to the appropriate inflating of footballs. The six balls that are used in the kicking game are kept separate from the 12 that are used by the offense. All balls are certified 2 hours and 15 minutes prior to the start of the game, and are inflated to measure between 12.5 and 13.5 pounds per square inch, and to weigh between 14 and 15 ounces.

Altering balls can result in a fine, including, but not limited to $25K and a loss of draft picks.

Tom Brady, who initially refused to comment on the scandal, is now scheduled to address the media today at 4 pm EST.
