There’s an ancient philosophy that tells us never to take life too seriously…that we should merely allow it flow around us like a summer wind…eyes closed, wine in hand, Francis Albert playing in the background. Well… that’s my philosophy anyway and I’m starting to feel pretty ancient these days so it is what it is. Life doesn’t always work that way unfortunately. Bill’s, break ups, broken dreams and damn luck will hunt you down and leave with a trophy. So whether it’s your head or your ass that’s mounted over the hunters fireplace, I think it’s safe to say that making the best of a bad lot is probably as good as it gets for most of us.

You have to look for the humor and laugh. Trust me it’s there..in plain sight. You can take the time to enjoy it or you can run right past on your way to a heart attack. This week’s bundle of joy came, as it so often does, from that endangered boxing species, Floydiculas Absurdicus, commonly known as ‘The Flomo’.

When all else fails, when your dog has died and your lady has left and the night has come to stay, you’ll find yourself chuckling through your tears if you simply allow the logic of the Floyd fanatic into your world. God created these hapless creatures as life’s little levities, nature’s clowns if you will, and there is both a spiritual and moral obligation on all of us to laugh long and hard at their farcical nonsense. This week saw the Mayweather/Pacquiao train chugging slowly toward a standstill and, I have to ask who cares at this stage? Every year, this happens and, every year, we promise ourselves that we won’t be caught again next year.

The entertainment value isn’t in the fight, it’s in the spectacle. It reminds me of the throngs that visit Lourdes and such places. You know absolutely that the mother of God won’t appear but there’s great fun in listening to people who claim that she did. Wooly headed women falling to their knees and crying out that Our Lady appeared to them in the guise of a parking attendant and who told them to “park that piece of s**t somewhere else” before mysteriously vanishing into an unclean portacabin…blessed be the lord and may he protect us from Satan…or in the case of Floydiculas Absurdicus, may he protect us from Bob Arum.

Poor old Bob. You have to feel for the guy. Mayweather is afraid to risk his 0 against Pacquiao….but it’s Arum’s fault. Al Haymon wants to feather his own nest….but it’s Arum’s fault. Showtime wants HBO to bend over…..but it’s Arum’s fault. Bob can’t win. This week the hallowed halls of Facebook were awash with articles blaming Arum for scuppering the fight. These were articles filled with misleading information and written by ‘journalists’ who appealed directly to the more base elements of the Mayweather fan club. They lambasted Bob because he said there were two outstanding issues to be resolved before the fight could be made but, much to the rage of the writer “Arum refused to say what these issues were clearly indicating that he didn’t want the fight to happen”. Wow. There’s a deduction for you. Arum was also quoted as saying that Pacquiao is looking at other options prompting an article that stated “Arum’s timing can be called into question. If he was genuinely interested in making this fight, he would never have undermined the talks by suggesting that Pac was looking elsewhere”. That reports came out on Dec 28th last detailing the offer that Al Haymon/TMT had made to Miguel Cotto is so far over these idiots’ heads it could have Delta Air Lines printed on the wings.

On Friday Feb 6th, Showtime’s boxing chief, Stephen Espinoza went on record as saying that a “handful of issues remained before the fight can be announced”. He went on to say that “the importance of those issues is pretty big” and that Floyd Mayweather was looking at Miguel Cotto and Amir Khan as possible opponents for his next bout. “He’s definitely fighting on May 2nd” Espinoza told the Daily News “If it becomes clear that the (Pacquiao) fight is not achievable, then he would either move on to Amir Khan or Miguel Cotto”. Not a question from the nut jobs that Espinoza spoke out of turn…somehow, it must be Arum’s fault that Showtime would make such statements during delicate negotiations.

I said some weeks ago that Floyd Mayweather would be seen to enter talks with Pacquiao/Top Rank, that a problem would be fabricated to allow him walk and he would fight Miguel Cotto on May 2nd in the MGM, Las Vegas. I knew, at that time, that the finger of blame would be pointed at Arum….lowest common denominator…when in doubt, blame Bob. This fight is not being made because Floyd Mayweather doesn’t want this fight made. He laid out a list of demands that Pacquiao has agreed to and to which he, himself, refuses to sign up to. He can’t blame dope testing this time, he can’t blame weights, he can’t blame venues, he can’t blame purses, he can’t blame purse splits….TBE, The Best Excuses are gone and he’s like a kid hiding behind his mommas dress…in this case Bob Arum’s reputation.

The Floyd fanatics are happy to play the blame game…any excuse will do when there is a huge possibility that Pacquiao would beat the BS out of Floyd…and then we’d have Adrien Broner speaking for every fanatic by saying “Manny beating the bulls**t outta Floyd…kinda makes me feel like I just had the bulls**t beaten outta me…again”.

They will look to Top Rank for a back door out of this fight. I suspect the wider world, the world where reality is a currency, will shake its head and laugh at TMT, some will blame Pacquiao, others Floyd. But it’s important to form those opinions by piecing together even the tiniest shreds of truth and the Mayweather mob seem to have co-ordination difficulties with that. The result is splattered across the social media sites like bad graffiti and it is wonderfully hilarious. Long may it last!
