Denis Boytsov SHOCKS Boxing Fans

Trainer Ulli Wegner has had many world champions, but never a heavyweight champion. But with Denis Boytsov and Kubrat Pulev now under his wing, he’s looking ahead to the post-Klitschko era. “One thing is clear,” says Wegner. “At the moment nobody gets past Wladimir Klitschko. With Boytsov and Pulev, I can prepare them for the time after Klitschko. No need to hide from any of the other heavyweights.”

That includes Tyson Fury. “That guy is pure show – a world champion in bragging,” said Wegner. “Nothing I’ve seen from him in the ring leaves me awestruck. I would without hesitation, sooner rather than later, face him with one of my boys.”

Boytsov will return on March 21 against Irineu Beato Costa Junior. Wenger admits that Junior isn’t the most difficult of opponents, “but one Denis has to convincingly beat if he wants to get back to the top of the ratings.”
