Jimmy Lange’s Top Three Boxing Analysts and a Bonus of his Least Favorite

Jimmy LangeBy who else? Jimmy Lange

I have never been the brightest knife in the drawer, but I know boxing. I know boxing top to bottom! I also know when I am listening to someone who knows as much or more than I do. This brings me to my pick for the best boxing analysts in the sport. A no brainer for the very best in the business is Al Bernstein. Al has it all. Equipped with impeccable knowledge of the game, he also has all the tools to get his point across thru fact, without coming across overbearing. Bernstein does not rely on gimmicks or flash. He is the epitome of “less is more “… He never steps on the toes of the match he is commentating. He is content to play a supporting role in the broadcast of the actual fight he is commentating.

Al is my favorite but there are many more that cannot be denied.

Love him or hate him, How-ward Cos-ell, with the help of Ali, ranks up there with the all time greats when it comes to analysts…the spice he added thru opinion, and personality, backed up by knowledge made him the only game in town to call a big time fight. Ultimately, the man lived by a mantra…” I TELL IT LIKE IT IS “. What more could you want?

If I can’t have either of my first 2 picks, I must go with the great Gil Clancy. Obviously his knowledge and experience of the sweet science is second to none. Probably the best of the three when it comes to handicapping a fight, and his personal experience on the job as a premier second, lends immense credibility to his call.

Let’s go the other way now in Boxing Analysts….

I would rather listen to my four year old call a fight, than have to gag thru the phony tough guy grandstanding of Teddy Atlas. My boy would probably make more sense to boot.
Teddy is all about Teddy! He does everything he can to take the spotlight off of the two guys in the ring, and place it on himself. He claims he is all about boxing, but he is all about Teddy. He is extremely transparent in this respect, and for fight fans that know better, the broadcast suffers.

I am sure this article will invoke many comments and we at RSR welcome them all…..
