Kell Brook Knocks Out Jo Jo Dan: Amir Khan Put Money Where Your Mouth Is!

Kell Brook 1By Doctor Ibrahim Hussain

Kell Brook looked almost sensational in his dismantling of the IBF mandatory contender, Romania’s Jo Jo Dan.However, away from the hometown hype it would not be too difficult for a seasoned athlete to look so good against the sloppy visiting contender, who showed that he hasn’t adopted the final art of boxing while making novice mistakes throughout the fight. Jo Jo’s punch power posed no trouble for Kell, even on the rare occasion he did connect, with Brook often responding with short shots to the opponent’s slack open guard.

Kell Brook, now 34-0, looked supremely conditioned in his first fight back following the near fatal stabbing he suffered last year in Spain that left him out of action for many months. He told the crowd “I didn’t think I would walk again, never mind box again. Now I’m here defending my title.”

He not only looked very well conditioned and trim, but he also seemed to be walking through all of the ammunition that Jo Jo Dan had to fire at him, prior to the Romanian’s corner pulling him out at the end of the 4th round.

Following the fight there was a roaring applause from the homeboy’s crowd at the Sheffield Arena before the Steel City Special One openly and vocally called out his northern counterpart, Bolton’s Amir King Khan. “If you’re watching Amir Khan, then get in here with me. I know you’re delicate around the whiskers,” said Brook.

His promoter, Eddie Hearn wants Brook to fight Khan in the UK capitol’s Wembley Stadium in June.”There’s a venue available on 13 June,” said Hearn. “If Amir Khan is watching, give everyone what they want.

Khan vs Brook is the biggest UK fight out there. Khan had previously made it known that he was not interested in an all-English showdown with Brook. However, now Brook has a world title, and given that Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather, JR are now in full time work that prevents them from a side job affair with Khan, then there really are few other fights that could generate such a purse.

While there have been talks of Brook facing Juan Manuel Marquez or Keith Thurman, these would not generate the same money or interest as a showdown with Khan at Wembley Stadium.

We may be being hopeful to expect that this summer, but after the date with Floyd and Manny being made against many people’s expectations, then we have learned that anything is possible in boxing, as well as a 5-year delay. The question is will it be the tough chin and power punching of Brook, or the lighting hand speed and surgeon like precision of Khan that will prevail?
