Brendan Schaub SHOCKER – UFC Breaking News

BSBy Barnaby “Mattress Man” Kellaway

In a recent episode of Brendan Schaub’s podcast, The Fighter and the Kid, the Ultimate Fighter season 8 finalist says, unless he gets a blockbuster fight, he will not step in to the octagon for $10,000 in sponsorship.

“To me, there came a point, especially with this Reebok deal, where I said, Okay, and I’m not trying to get in trouble, not trying to make headlines; this is just me talking, being real. So, I said to myself, Okay, Reebok wants my exclusive rights inside the cage for 10K…for 10 grand. Man! You know what’s going on in my world as far as entertainment goes.” He goes on, “The brain and the people that are smarter than me, like Joe Rogan, Bryan Callen, Tim Tebow, my Dad, my CAA agents, um everyone who’s way smarter than me go, No, no, no. You have too much else going on. You make too much money elsewhere to get punched in the head.”

The 15-10 heavyweight then says that the only way to get him back in the octagon would be to present him with a blockbuster fight.

“Man, the only thing that’s gonna get me out of bed is if you give me a super-fight. You wanna give me Rampage Jackson, you wanna give me Shogun…a big, blockbuster fight, I’ll get out of bed for that. No time soon, because I have some crazy stuff going on, but man…for me to fight for 10K for a Reebok deal, you’re batshit crazy, man. You’re not getting Big Brown for 10K.”

This is not the first time Schaub has expressed issues he has with the Reebok deal. In December he spoke about his sponsorships: “I make two times as much money on sponsors than I do on what the UFC pays me. Six of my sponsors have already bailed because the Reebok deal is going up.”

Then five weeks ago, when the pay scale was announced, he was one of many fighters to voice their frustration. After receiving the news that the new deal would afford him $10,000 per fight he took to Twitter: “I’ve made six figures in sponsorship in each of my last six fights.”

This news does potentially pave the road for a rival company to make a move for ‘Big Brown’. But whether or not he could attract such lucrative sponsors fighting for anyone other than the UFC remains to be seen.

In light of his most recent comments it is fair to assume that we will not be seeing Brendan Schaub in the octagon any time soon. Considering he has lost his last two in disappointing fashion, it is unlikely that the UFC will reward him with a blockbuster fight. As for the deal itself, there is no room for manoeuvre. The deal is the deal.
