RSR Boxing Results: Glen Johnson – Allan Green & Rafael Marquez – Juan Manuel Lopez Results

By Geno McGahee

Zab Judah Ekes by Lucas Matthysse

Zab “Super” Judah, 40-6, 27 KO’s, survived a late round knockdown to take a 12 round split decision over Lucas Matthysse, 27-1, 25 KO’s.  Judah built an early lead, using his skills to keep the stronger Matthysse at  bay, but a steady body attack by the power-puncher set up a late knockdown and it became a race against the clock as Judah held on and awaited the final bell and he made it, taking the split decision and upsetting Matthysse.

Juan Manuel Lopez Stops Rafael Marquez

WBO Featherweight Champion, Juan Manuel Lopez, 30-0, 27 KO’s, used his superior strength to beat Rafael Marquez, 39-6, 35 KO’s into submission.  From the opening bell, Lopez landed the better punches and imposed his power and size on Marquez, taking some punches along the way.  Juanma was rocked on a couple of occasions but was in full control of the fight and from round six, the punishment was stepped up and a tired Marquez could not fend it off any more.

It was a great performance by the champion and the end of the road for Marquez, a courageous fighter, but one that may have had too many fights.

Glen Johnson TKO’s Allan Green in 8

“The Road Warrior” Glen Johnson, 51-14-2, 35 KO’s, came in at 167 pounds and proved too strong at the super middleweight level for Allan Green, 29-3, 20 KO’s, using pressure and a right hand to bring home the victory in the 8th round.

The low left hand and relentless nature of the 41 year old Johnson gave the opportunity to land and a crashing right hand behind the ear put Green on the floor. Green complained while on the canvas but couldn’t get to his feet in time and the referee waved it off.

Johnson now picks up 3 points and moves his way into the ever changing Super Six
