I have to say this is a good thing for boxing IF he holds to it which would make him a very unique individual [which he is]. I applaud and give total respect to the skill and athleticism, conditioning, dedication and marketability Floyd brought to his career and the sport through it. These attributes cannot be denied. Kudos to Floyd and his team for always delivering and always showing up ready to excel which is about as much as can be asked of any performer in all fields. Floyd has done what few do in that way or at least very few do at the level he has attained and remained.

The fact is, his style is brilliant as far as self preservation goes. His acumen and savvy as a businessman is unprecedented in sports. Floyd is one of the most accomplished, if not THE most accomplished athletes in history.

All that being said, his style does not excite me and his choice of Andre Berto as his swan song fight is consistent with his career to date. What is good for Floyd is what will be offered. I am happy for him or anyone who can do that and actually draw not just some fans, but record numbers. BUT, the fight does not excite me nor do I believe it will anyone else. Now this being said, somehow he sells tickets and his PPV numbers are unprecedented so if history repeats itself, the numbers will be great (even if he fights on regular TV) and boxing will have one more high profile event that will highlight the game which is a good thing.

I am hoping Floyd stays in the game and continues to bring the sport the exposure and high visibility he has through his own career. I believe he will. Floyd needs a stage and boxing is his, so it makes sense he will. As much as his moniker suggests, I don’t think, especially at this stage money is the motivator for Floyd, he is still seeking accolades and acceptance which will never come from an outside source but we all benefit by the entertainment value as he seeks it within the sport.
Floyd vs Berto, Kahn, Brook, it doesn’t matter. He is in a league of his own in this generation of fighters. He has to fight someone, it is not his fault there are no serious threats or contenders to him. That being said, it makes it hard to write anything that would draw excitement for this exit fight/event we will all be drawn to watch.

My prediction is a boring 12 round UD by Floyd over Berto. Like every other fight of his I have made predictions on….
