Undertaker Returns at Battleground and Tombstones Brock Lesnar, 2 Times – WWE BREAKING NEWS

UTBy Nick “Red” Conley

In a much anticipated match between WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins versus the Beast from the East Brock Lesnar, the surprise return of The Undertaker was the real highlight of the match, and really the entire Battleground pay per view. While there was much speculation that The Undertaker’s return was imminent to build momentum for an upcoming match at SummerSlam or WrestleMania 32, the specifics of his return and how he would be used remained a mystery.

In a match that I would argue was moving slowly and less than stellar, Lesnar gave Rollins the F-5 and appeared to have the match won when the lights went out. When the lights came back on second later, Rollins was nowhere to be found and The Undertaker was standing in the ring with a vicious look on his face. Lesnar did a great job at expressing the look of shock and fear on his face, two emotions often not portrayed by the Beast Incarnate. The Undertaker proceeded to give Brock Lesnar numerous chokeslams and Tombstones. The Undertaker left Lesnar beaten and battered in the ring, another rarity for the former champ. In the end, Rollins keeps the belt.

So what does this all mean? The Undertaker’s interference in the match has immediately led to speculation that Lesnar and the Deadman will be facing off at SummerSlam in August. Of course though, at 50-years-old, there are serious concerns about The Undertaker’s physical health. At WrestleMania 31, the Undertaker defeated Bray Wyatt in a match that I believe was mostly carried by Wyatt. The Undertaker did not look bad and still in extraordinary shape for 50-years-old and wrestling for decades, and the photograph released by his trainer last week further confirmed The Undertaker’s commitment to remaining in shape. However, it would be a hard sell to the WWE Universe for The Undertaker to return to either SummerSlam next month or WrestleMania 32 to defeat Brock Lesnar. The WWE has done everything it possibly could to build Lesnar into an unstoppable force. While The Undertaker certainly has the street credit, reputation, and fan support to beat Lesnar, it is just not believable and will certainly devastate Lesnar’s momentum and feasibility of retaking the belt from Seth Rollins.

In the grand scheme of things, having The Undertaker defeat Brock Lesnar in an upcoming pay per view makes perfect sense and likely would be welcomed by the WWE fan base, but I am just a little worried about what this will do to Lesnar’s reputation moving forward. Regardless, I think we are in store for another Lesnar-Undertaker feud. After all, The Undertaker is clearly out for blood.
