ChinBy Travis “Novel” Fleming

The ability to absorb a ridiculous amount of punishment from some of the hardest hitting men on earth is something that will always be, at the same time, awe inspiring and unfathomable to the vast majority of us who have never taken a shot from an elite power puncher in the upper echelon of the pro ranks. You can’t help but marvel at the ability of a fighter who can withstand a barrage of hellacious shots, only to turn the tides and take over the fight when an opportunity to return fire presents itself. Below, I pay respect to the iron chinned warriors of the sport with my picks for the ten best chins in boxing today, along with my picks for the ten best chins of the last 25 years.

Top ten chins in boxing today:

1. Antonio Tarver
2. Floyd Mayweather, JR.
3. Ruslan Provodnikov
4. Bernard Hopkins
5. Danny Garcia
6. Brandon Rios
7. Jean Pascal
8. Ricky Burns
9. Saul “Canelo” Alvarez
10. Bermane Stiverne

Top 5 chins since of last 25 years (since 1990): Note: In order to pay respect to other iron chinned warriors that deserve recognition, I purposely left off those that are on the list of the top ten of today even if they deserved to make the top ten of the last 25.

1. James Toney
2. Oliver McCall
3. David Tua
4. Evander Holyfield
5. Julio Cesar Chavez
6. Mike McCallum
7. Wayne McCullough
8. Johnny Tapia
9. Carl Froch
10. Antonio Margarito

Just missed: Oscar De La Hoya, Marco Antonio Barrera, Shane Mosley

As with all lists like this, there is no sure fire order and there are bound to be fighters that fans feel deserved to make the cut that didn’t. This is all in good fun and by no means concrete fact. Any suggestions, changes, additions etc…Leave FB comments on Ringside Report….
