RSR EXCLUSIVE: Michael “Second To Nunn” Passes Along Personal Message to his Supporters

NunnBy Chris “Man of Few Words” Benedict

Approximately six weeks ago, I wrote a piece here on Ringside Report about former middleweight champion Michael Nunn who has been incarcerated since 2003 on a drug conviction. He was transferred not long ago from the Federal Correction Institution in Bastrop, Texas to the less hostile Hazelton facility in Bruceton Mills, WV. Michael contacted me through Facebook to thank me for the support and for re-igniting a conversation around not just his predicament, but prison reform in general. Due to Nunn’s high visibility profile and the sensitive nature of the infringements upon his civil, legal, and religious rights, Michael and his attorney understandably prefer that, for the time being, most of his comments remain off the record.

Michael Nunn did, however, express via email his desire to pass along the following message to all of the people who have kept him in their hearts and thoughts throughout his 12-year and counting ordeal:

“Thanks a lot. Give all my fans my greetings and blessings and tell everyone in the boxing world hello and, God willing, will be seeing you all real soon. Things are really looking up as you know the courts have passed some laws here in the last year, so it should shorten my release date. As we know it’s been long overdue. God has kept me strong and positive, as I have done my prison sentence with a strong, loving family, friends, fans, and folks like yourself.”
