Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin Returns – Breaking Boxing News

PQThe same day Floyd Mayweather faces Andre Berto, unbeaten former middleweight champion Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin (31-0-1, 22 KOs) faces Australian Michael Zerafa (17-1, 9 KOs) at Foxwoods Resorts Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut. Quillin was unable to make the middleweight limit in an April world title challenge against WBO middleweight champion Andy Lee.

His September 12 bout with Zerafa will be fought at a 163lb contract weight. “I’m going to try my hardest and try to make that weight but I won’t kill myself,” said Quillin. I’ve been the same weight since I was 18 years old. I’m 32 now and I’m getting older so the weight is not coming off the same like it did as a young man that I was once before. We still got a lot of time because the fight that I’m really worried about right now is Michael.”

With a win over Zerafa, Quillin will be in line for a shot at WBA “regular” middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs’ title in December.

“I’m trying to keep my mind focused just on Michael because I know everybody’s looking to make a name for themselves, including him,” stated Quillin. “If he comes in there and beats me then he would probably be pulling off one of the biggest upsets in boxing recently. But my job is to take everybody seriously. Whether it’s Michael, whether Danny Jacobs, whether it’s Gennady Golovkin or whether it’s any other name out there. It’s just staying focused on my guy that’s in front of me and Michael is that guy in front of me and my job is to try to win one round at a time.”
