This Saturday night at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California, Danny “Swift” Garcia, 31-0, 18 KO’s takes on the always tough Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero 33-3, 18 KO’s for the vacant WBC Welterweight title vacated by former champion Floyd Mayweather, JR. The WBC made a controversial decision to allow Guerrero to fight for the vacant title by ignoring the fact Amir Khan is the #1 contender. In fact the WBC went with the #6 ranked fighter in its rankings to challenge the #2 contender Garcia for the vacant title.

Garcia who is fighting his second fight at welterweight is a clear favorite at -800 to defeat the older Guerrero Saturday night. Guerrero comes into the fight 2-2 in his last 4 fights with losses to Floyd Mayweather, JR. and Keith “One Time” Thurman, and last June at the Stubhub Center in Carson, California Robert was handed a gift decision over Aaron Martinez. Guerrero who has never backed down from a fight, illustrates everything that is good about boxing. He’s a good guy whose backstory is well known.

He gave up a world title to be a stay-at-home dad and look after his children while his wife, Casey, fought Leukemia. But, in the ring, Guerrero may have seen his best days as a boxer come and go. He’s 33 years old and as a fighter his skills have shown a rapid decline. For Danny Garcia a fighter coming into his prime, this is an excellent opportunity to become the WBC Welterweight title holder in just his second fight in that weight class. Garcia who has fought some of the best opposition in boxing, fighters such as Lucas Matthysse, Lamont Peterson, Amir Khan, and Zab Judah, will stylistically be a nightmare for “The Ghost”.

Guerrero on the other hand deserves the respect of the fans, in a day and age of low risk high reward where he has never backed down and taken on all challengers put in front of him. Last Wednesday at a media workout in the Bay Area Robert stated “All the hard work is done. We got one more day of sparring before we head out to Los Angeles next week. My dad and I are putting the final touches of our game plan together. We had great sparring and everyone is going to see a great fight on FOX January 23.

Danny Garcia is very confident coming into this fight. He said he’s going to knock me out in five rounds. His dad said they’re bringing the storm to California. They both said it’s going to be the Danny Garcia show, so we’ll see. All I know is I’m coming to fight. I’m going to do all my talking in the ring with my fists.” The Garcia Guerrero PBC card will also feature a welterweight battle between undefeated Sammy “The Sergeant” Vasquez, 20-0, 14 KO’s and Los Angeles’ Aron Martinez, 20-4-1, 4 KO’s plus a heavyweight attraction that matches up 2012 U.S. Olympian Dominic Breazeale, 16-0, 14 KO’s and rugged contender Amir “Hardcore” Mansour 22-1-1, 16 KO’s.
