Whatchagonnado: Shut UP Already MMA Fighters That You Can Beat Floyd Mayweather, JR!

whatcha-gonna-doBy Roy “Sharpshooter” Bennett

Notorious No More

The Floyd “Money” Mayweather, JR. curse has struck the MMA world like an earthquake again. It seems anyone that wears spandex shorts and calls out the boxing world’s former premier fighter is likely to be hit by a careening Greyhound Bus and get ironed out for their trouble. This past weekend Nate Diaz was the bus that rolled right over the streaking MMA golden boy from Ireland known as “The Notorious” Conor McGregor.

The Internet lit up like a proverbial f****** Christmas tree as the result of the fight became known and boxing fans around the world rejoiced as if they’d all been given free first class plane tickets to the Rio De Janeiro carnival. Yeah. McGregor – and before him Ronda Rousey – had drawn the ire of lovers of the sweet science for their incessant smack talk about how they could beatdown boxing’s pound for pound best at his own game. Well, both Rousey and McGregor failed to handle their business when it really mattered in their own sport, suffering emphatic defeats against opponents they thought would be easy work. Rousey and McGregor started to believe their own hype. And that shit has a habit of blowing up in your damn face. Boom! Some say precision beats power and timing beats speed, but sometimes nothing beats heart. And Holly Holm and Nate Diaz had too much heart for both of them.

To the MMA fanboys in their Tap Out t-shirts I say this. STFU for a moment. Say what you want about Mayweather, JR. I don’t care. But the man is a winner and never took his eye off the ball in his during his 19 year career. Love him or hate him you have to respect his professionalism and the way he never let his psychological or physical guard down when the time came to fight. He left no gaps for an opponent to slip into. That’s some straight up Zen Samurai shit right there. No pseudo.

Classy In Defeat

Is what Conor McGregor was in his post fight interviews. A few of our boxers could learn something from his example. But classy is not a term I would use to describe Sadam Ali after he lost his unbeaten record to Jessie Vargas this past weekend in Washington DC. In his post fight interview Ali seemed to imply his ankle was the reason for the stoppage loss. Can you believe that shit? Neither can I. Well, maybe we shouldn’t be surprised. A few years ago we had heavyweight title challenger David Haye blaming his big toe for his one sided loss to Wladimir Klitschko. SMDH. Ankles. Toes. What’s next? It’s only a matter of time before some guy blames his nut sac for getting KTFO.
