Joseph “JoJo” Diaz Victorious Over Jayson Velez

Saturday night at the Oracle Arena in Oakland California, Undefeated Golden Boy Prospect Joseph “JoJo” Diaz, 20-0, 11 KO’s looked superb in his victory over Jayson Velez, 23-2-1, 16 KO’s. The South El Monte native, and former 2012 US Olympian Diaz made his HBO Debut in his big step up fight with Velez and used the big stage to showcase his skills. The first round seen back and forth action and was more of a feeling out round until Velez caught Diaz with a two shot combo cutting Diaz under his eye.

The Southpaw Diaz began to take over after dominating the second and third round hurting Velez with big overhand lefts to the face of Jayson. After the 3rd Velez’ corner began to have concerns over increased swelling over his eye due to taking an large amount straight lefts from Diaz. The middle rounds of the fight saw much of the same as Diaz, outclassed, out powered, and just out boxed Velez through 7. Going into the 10th round Joseph was delivering a clean sweep landed an astronomical 52% of his punches on Velez using his hand speed to impress the Oracle arena crowd. Diaz showed fabulous skill as the judges had it 100-90, 99-91, and 98-92 all in favor of the still undefeated Joseph Diaz, JR.
