Andre Ward Outclasses Sullivan Barrera – Breaking Boxing News

Andre WardBy Anthony “Stacks” Saldaña

Tonight in Oakland California in front of his hometown Andre “Son of God” Ward, 28-0, 15 KO’s took on undefeated Cuban Sullivan Barrera, 17-0, 12 KO’s. Ward, the last American man to win a Gold Medal at the Olympics back in 2004, has since had a spectacular career at super middleweight, holding the 168lb title from 2009 until vacating it last year to move up to Light Heavyweight. The Oracle was full of bay area stars that included Steph Curry point guard from the Golden State Warriors and Actor Michael B Anthony who recently starred in Creed.

The first two rounds seemed to be feeling out rounds for Sullivan Barrera with Andre beating him to the punch and being the more effective aggressive fighter. The third round saw Ward nail Barrera with a huge left hook on the temple of Barrera that floored Sullivan. Ward continued his clinical boxing dissection of Barrera throughout the middle rounds. Ward was cut over the eye in the 10th due to an accidental headbutt as Andre continued his beautiful display of boxing leaving the flat footed Barrera looking for answers. Ward ended the fight the same way he started it by complete domination. Ward beat Barrera by unanimous decision to remain undefeated by the scores of 117-109, 119-109, and 117-108. “ I give myself a B-” “I felt like I wanted to be in there and we got it done” stated Andre after the fight. When asked about Sergey Kovalev, Ward said “Kovalev is the man at light heavyweight and it’s not a matter of if, I just think it’s when” “I’ve been focusing on Sullivan Barrera, there is no second fight there is no shot at the title if I don’t win tonight, we got it done now it’s time to focus on what’s next.
