Conor McGregor Will NOT Fight Floyd Mayweather, JR – Breaking MMA News

387379By JM “Shade” Daguio

There are rumors swirling around by irresponsible sports media that a McGregor/Mayweather, JR. fight is in the works. (pause to let that sink in)

Yep, most “sports journalist” had the audacity to post such irresponsible rumor is a click bait waiting to happen.

First point is: why is that even a match? McGregor is an excellent striker but will definitely look amateur to a master tactician in Floyd Mayweather, JR. McGregor himself conceded in an old interview that Floyd is the best in the rules that he plays in, which is boxing and no one may be able to beat Floyd in that respect, then why would they fight in the first place?

The constant argument of Boxing versus MMA has proven to be fruitless as long as it started. True, MMA does have boxing as one of its pillars of disciplines however that’s only one of many. Would you bet against a Gold Medal sprinter versus a running back of American football in the sport of 100 meter dash? Well, they’re both great runners but they reside dimensions away when it comes to rules and specific skill sets, same thing with MMA and Boxing.

Second point: Even if (hypothetically speaking) McGregor has impressive skills as a boxer and is capable to fight Mayweather, he is still under exclusive contract with the UFC, that means no prizefighting outside of the octagon.

That point alone should put the rumors to rest. UFC brass gave McGregor the cold shoulder after he ditched the pre-fight media obligations so as to not to “interrupt” his training, this prompted the UFC to pull McGregor out of the UFC 200 card and McGregor has been spouting a lot braggadocio to lobby his place back in the card and this rumor maybe one of the futile attempts. The UFC though, may not see it as what McGregor/McGregor fans would see it, pulling McGregor out of the main card wasn’t only a procedural measure, it was also a punishment and a message: Do not overplay your cards or you will be dealt with.

It is not in the UFC’s nature to allow a famed fighter to venture outside while he’s still in “detention” or “time-out” (whatever you wanna call it) nor will it allows itself to be subjected in a position where the fighter dictates who he wants to fight and the UFC definitely doesn’t want McGregor to box.

So yes, it is an absolute rumor, Mayweather, JR. would absolutely put a clinic on versus McGregor if they ever boxed and McGregor would just run Floyd over in an MMA fight. It’s an exciting thought, but the results would be discouraging.
