David Haye Destroys Arnold Gjergjaj! Is Shannon “The Loud Mouth” Briggs Really Next?

Britain Boxing Haye MaccarinelliBy Richard “Doc” Pratt

David Haye comes into this fight with a 27-2, 25 KO’s record. This is his second fight in five months after being dormant for 3 ½ years. Coming off a 1st round TKO of Mark de Mori, himself being tag with the “KO artist” moniker wasn’t much work for him in his boxing return. Arnold Gjergjaj, 29-1-0 21 KO’s hasn’t fought much top competition so the KO rate shouldn’t fool anyone! Even so, Haye still was able to draw upwards of 16k spectators at the O2 Arena in Greenwich, London.

Round 1- A short bit of feeling out between the two didn’t last long. Gjergjaj comes forward with the first flurry of punches not phasing David at all. Haye connects with an hard right hook doing damage and then an easy straight right knocking Gjergjaj down. This happening 40 seconds in. Haye gets through with another stiff straight right making Gjergjaj waver again. The jabs by Haye are affective and authoritative. Gjergjaj was trying to stay away but Haye, not coming forward, draws Arnold in. Toying with him now Haye does a bit of showboating. The round comes to an end with Haye throwing a right that landed just after the bell that didn’t look that harmful but Gjergjaj goes down to his knees and complains the punch was behind the head trying to play to the judges. Which failed to get ANY of their attention.

Round 2– Gjergjaj is trying to exchange punches with Haye without success as Haye makes contact through his guard at will. 30 seconds in, Haye tags him good and puts him down again. Gjergjaj trying to keep his guard up continues to get rocked. On the ropes and taking a huge barrage of punches and not answering, Gjergjaj begins sinking into the ropes. With no legs left to stand on. The ref waves off the fight with 1:22 left in the 2nd.
Gjergjaj was completely overwhelmed and outclassed by Haye.

Haye takes it, officially TKO 1:35. Taking him to 28-2, 26 KO’s and now looking forward to Shannon Briggs who made easy work of Emilio Ezequiel Zarate with a first round KO in his prelim to this fight.

In the post fight interview. Haye was looking for Shannon trying to draw him in to some sort of an in ring confrontation unsuccessfully. A small exchange of words between Haye and Briggs DID occurred on the way out from the ring with the two separated by security and respective entourage. Can’t wait to hear what THAT exchange was!

Keep your guard up and elbows in!
