The “Hebrew Hammer” Finds its Mark: Cletus Seldin Wins By KO in the First Round!

Seldin2By Ian “The Boxing Historian” Murphy

Junior Welterweight Cletus “The Hebrew Hammer” Seldin (ranked #4 WBC) just climbed another rung on the ladder towards a title shot. Friday night at the Paramount in Huntington, NY, Seldin made very quick work of tough Jesus Selig. Cletus came out throwing and pressuring, forcing Selig to move backwards from the start. The only offense Selig was able to mount was a few ineffectual jabs, which Seldin deftly slipped or smothered. For a fighter with a huge right, an opponent who is trying to keep him off by throwing jabs and backpedaling is going to be in trouble. Selig was asking for it, and Seldin obliged him with a thunderous right hand smash crumpling him on the spot. Like a mini Marciano, Seldin (displaying improved speed, defense and footwork) shrunk the ring and suffocated his opponent and finished the fight.

As with Rocky’s famed “Suzie Q”, when Seldin’s hammer finds its mark, it’s over. Now ranked in the Top 5 at 140 lbs, Seldin looks to test his skills against top fighters like John Molina, JR. and current belt holders Viktor Postol and Terence Crawford. One fight that would be guaranteed fireworks is a fight with Ruslan “Siberian Rocky” Provodnikov. Provodnikov is coming off of a loss to Molina, but if the money is right, we might get a chance to see the “Hamma” crack the rock in front of a big TV audience.
