Negotiations Underway for Canelo Alvarez vs Gennady “GGG” Golovkin Fight in September – Boxing News

GGG VS CAThe long awaited fight between Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin has shown a ray of hope for fans as their promoters continue to hold talks about the possibility of having the super fight in September. I believe both fighters are also looking forward to the fight, not only for their gain, but also for the fans, as sportsbetting boxing odds fluctuate to match the prowess of the two middleweight superstars in the next few weeks.

According to reports by BoxingScene, Eric Gomez, the senior vice president of Golden Boy Promotions, announced that their team has started working on the possibility of the Canelo vs Golovkin fight in September. Many fans have hankered for this bout, and as we count down a few months to September, many of them will expect nothing less than an exciting fight. In the recent past, the Mexican boxing superstar and his cohorts got into a legal tussle with All-Star Boxing after which the court ordered Canelo asked him to pay his ex-promoter $8.5 million.

Focusing on the next opponent of the action-packed orthodox boxer, Golden Boy Productions said that they are still weighing options to push for the fight because they are still at an open negotiation table. Gomez also defended the Canelo’s promoters saying that they were still busy handling other urgent issues, but the focus has now shifted to the planning of a September fight as well as other scheduled events of the year.

Gomez revealed that he was referred to Tom Loffler, the K2 Promotions managing director when questioned regarding the possible head-to-head between Canelo and Golovkin. Furthermore, he added that they will be busy with key discussions in the next few days, which clearly revives the fan’s anticipations for the long-awaited fight.

Canelo has not only been seen as one of the most popular young boxers in Mexico, but also a fighter on demand across the whole Latino boxing fraternity. With an impressive record of 47-1-1, including 33 KO’s, Alvarez fight against Golovkin was scheduled to take place in May with the aim of defending his World Boxing Council middleweight title, his main rival. However, it was decided that Canelo would first defend his title against the British boxing superstar, Amir Khan, in the same month before facing Golovkin four months later.

When his time to shine arrived, Canelo took only six rounds to execute an electrifying knockout triumph over Khan to retain his middleweight title. However, even after defending his title against Golovkin, Alvarez made a decision to surrender the belt by insisting that he is still fired up and open to face Golovkin in future.

The Kazakh boxer still reigns as the full-time WBC middleweight titleholder. According to ESPN reports, without considering his fight with Alvarez, Golovkin plans to enter the ring in August or September. The 34-year-old could go for Chris Eubank Jr if he fails to fight Canelo this year. With a perfect 35-0 record, including 32 KO’s, Golovkin is still fresh from a stoppage victory in the second round in April over Dominic Wade.
